  • Cristiano Ronaldo’s New Al-Nassr Contract: Rs 2,000 Crore Per Year, Private Jet And More

Cristiano Ronaldo is set to earn over Rs 2000 crore per year after signing a new 2-year deal with Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr.

Just weeks after suggesting that his Saudi Pro League adventure with Al-Nassr was over, Cristiano Ronaldo signed a new 2-year deal with the club, putting an end to all speculations of his potential return to European football. Ronaldo, despite being the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League over the last couple of seasons, hasn’t been able to win the league title yet. The club’s underwhelming show even prevented it from qualifying for the FIFA Club World Cup.

The repeated failures with Al-Nassr seemed to have prompted Ronaldo to pursue the remainder of his career elsewhere, but a lot seems to have changed over the last week or so.

As Al Nassr took to social media to announce, “Cristiano Ronaldo is staying at @AlNassrFC until 2027,” reports of the bumper contract that the Portuguese has signed also emerged.

According to Talksport, Ronaldo is set to earn 178 million pounds per year (approx 400 million euros or INR 2000 crore over the next two years), after signing a contract extension at Al-Nassr. The deal also includes the following:

    – 24.5M pound signing bonus (increases to £38M in second year)

    – 8M bonus if Al Nassr win the Saudi Pro League

    – 5M bonus if Al Nassr win the Asian Champions League

    – 4M bonus for winning the golden boot

    – 15% ownership of Al Nassr (estimated at £33m)

    – 80K bonus per goal (increases by 20% in second year)

    – 40K bonus per assist (increases by 20% in second year)

    – 60M worth of sponsorship deals promised

    – 4M worth of private jet expenses, covered by Al-Nassr

The Portuguese goalscorer superstar arrived in 2023 in the kingdom to play with the club, heralding a rush of players in the latter stages of their careers to the oil-rich country.

Last month, Ronaldo posted “This chapter is over” hours after the Saudi Pro League wrapped up with Al Nassr finishing third and trophyless once again.

“Ronaldo’s presence is a key factor in developing the Saudi league in the last two years and a half. He opens the door for elite and young players to come to Saudi Arabia,” a source from the Public Investment Fund (PIF), a major investor in Saudi football, told AFP last month.

The oil-funded PIF, the sovereign wealth fund behind a number of big-ticket Saudi investments, controls a group of Pro League clubs including Al Nassr, Al Hilal, and Al Ahli.

  • Paul Pogba Signs For Monaco, Hoping To Revive Career

Paul Pogba has signed a two-year deal with Ligue 1 side Monaco to return to football after a near two-year absence.

Paul Pogba has signed a two-year deal with Ligue 1 side Monaco to return to football after a near two-year absence, the club announced on Saturday. The 2018 World Cup winner has made only 12 appearances across the last three seasons due to injuries, an 18-month doping ban and an extortion case in which he was the victim. Pogba failed a drugs test in August 2023 after a match for Juventus and has been free to return to football since March, although his contract at the Italian giants had been terminated last year. The midfielder will now play club football in Ligue 1 for the first time in his professional career.

“I am determined to get back on the pitch, mentally ready, physically ready, it’s just a matter of time,” the 32-year-old told French television last weekend.

Pogba played in the Le Havre youth team before signing for Manchester United in 2009.

He made only a handful of first-team appearances for the three-time European champions before signing for Juventus in 2012.

Pogba won four consecutive Serie A titles in Turin before rejoining United for a then-world record 105 million euros ($123 million).

He moved back to Juventus three years ago but struggled with a series of injuries.

In 2024, his brother Mathias was sentenced to three years in prison, with two years suspended, for his role in a plot to extort 13 million euros from Pogba in 2022.

Pogba has scored 11 goals in 91 appearances for the France national team, playing a starring role and scoring in their World Cup final victory over Croatia seven years ago.

  • There Was Threat, We Weren’t Allowed To…”: Rohit Sharma On T20 World Cup Match vs Pakistan

Rohit Sharma shared some intriguing details from the build-up to India vs Pakistan match in the T20 World Cup

Retired from two of the three formats, Rohit Sharma has now got the time to sit back, relax, and look back at some of his recent achievements in international cricket. Though the ODI World Cup dream still remains unfulfilled for Rohit, he did manage to lead the national team to the T20 World Cup and ICC Champions Trophy 2025 titles recently. These events also included some gruelling contests against Pakistan, India’s arch-rivals

During an interview on JioHotstar, Rohit shared some intriguing details from India’s T20 World Cup campaign, especially as the team was preparing for the match against Pakistan.

“Before the India vs Pakistan match, we were told there was a threat – something was going on. So, two days before the game, we weren’t allowed to step out of the hotel. The atmosphere started building from there,” Rohit said on JioHotstar.

Though Indian captains often dub matches against Pakistan as ‘just another contest’, Rohit admitted that the statement isn’t really true.

“We were ordering food in, and the hotel was so packed you could barely walk. Fans, media – everyone was there. That’s when you realise this isn’t just another match – something special is about to happen. As soon as we got near the stadium, it already felt like a celebration – Indian fans, Pakistani fans, all dancing and enjoying themselves,” he added.

“I’ve played so many India-Pakistan games now – I’ve lost count – but that pre-match energy, that feeling… It’s always something else. Nothing compares to it,” he further said.

In the T20 World Cup clash against Pakistan, it was Rishabh Pant who scored 42 off 31 balls in an innings that saw the Indian team being dismissed for 119 in 19 overs.

“We just wanted Rishabh to be Rishabh – do all the things he does best, unsettle the bowlers, play freely. And he did that perfectly. His innings was around 42, and on that pitch, that’s as good as scoring 70.”

In the match, Jasprit Bumrah turned out to be the team’s saviour again, with three wickets to his name, helping the team secure a 6-run win.

“With Bumrah, you’ve got to be proactive in how you use him. He’s a wicket-taker, and at the same time, he’s not going to leak runs. So, how do you balance that, especially when the opposition is chasing at a run-a-ball? Arshdeep has been phenomenal too,” said Rohit Sharma.

“Over the last two years, there’s a reason he’s become India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is – he’s a really smart bowler. So, with both of them, my focus was on how to use their remaining overs strategically,” he added.

  • US Used 20% Of Its THAAD Missiles To Defend Israel For 12 Days: Report

The THAAD deployment to Israel came with challenges as supporting allies in conflict zones would mean using resources that could affect military readiness and future deployment.

The United States used up a total of 15 to 20 per cent of the country’s advanced anti-missile system or Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) to bolster the defence against Iran’s aerial strikes during the 12-day conflict in which Israel and the US struck nuclear facilities.

According to Military Watch Magazine, an estimate of 60-80 interceptors were utilised during the conflict. A single launch of a THAAD interceptor costs between $12-15 million, so the entire cost of these interceptors sits between $810 million to $1.215 billion. This figure dwarfs the cost of Iran’s missile barrages. This asymmetric cost of defence versus offence is not sustainable in the long term or multi-front conflicts.

Per the Wall Street Journal, the US had restocked the THAAD system set up in Israel in 2024.

Iran had launched a barrage of missiles on cities across Israel in response to attacks on its nuclear and military facilities. They included models such as Ghadr, Emad, Kheibar Shekan, and the Fattah-1 hypersonic missile, which is hard to intercept as it travels at up to Mach 15.

The THAAD deployment to Israel came with challenges as supporting allies in conflict zones would mean using resources that could affect military readiness and future deployment.

The THAAD system was designed to counter the expanding missile capabilities of nations like North Korea and Iran as they were pursuing medium and intermediate range ballistic missiles capable of delivering conventional or nuclear warheads.

Moreover, the United States produces only about 50-60 THAAD interceptors annually, which means it could take years to replenish what it just expended in 11 days.

The war between Israel and Iran came to an end after US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that a “complete and total ceasefire” had been reached by both the parties. In the end, the US-Israel campaign has managed to contain, not defeat, Iran. Nuclear sites were hit. Military leadership was shaken. But Iran’s regime, and its nuclear ambition, remain intact.

  • 6-Year-Old British Boy Detained In Rs 18.8 Crore Drug Bust In Mauritius

The six-year-old was unaware of the contents of his bags. He was flown back to the UK on Wednesday and is staying with his father.

A six-year-old British boy was detained in Mauritius after customs officials found 14 kilograms of cannabis hidden inside his suitcase. According to The Telegraph, the child was detained alongside seven other people at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam airport on Sunday. The group was reportedly carrying more than 161 kilograms of cannabis, worth 1.6 million pounds (approximately Rs 18.8 crore), hidden in the luggage. Seven of the suspects were British, including the boy whose luggage contained 24 packages of drugs wrapped in clear cellophane.

The group was stopped at the main international airport in Mauritius as they disembarked from a British Airways flight from Gatwick, per the outlet. The boy’s mother was also arrested and had 17kg hidden in her own bags. The eighth suspect was reported to be a Romanian living in Britain. He was allegedly holding 32 packages of cannabis.

Mauritian authorities described the use of a child to transport drugs as “outrageous and inhumane”, adding, “This is one of the most revolting cases we have encountered in recent years”.

The boy was unaware of the contents of his bags. He was flown back to the UK on Wednesday and is staying with his father.

Authorities discovered 11 Apple AirTags, suggesting links to a drug gang. The drugs cache was found during a joint operation by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Section (CANS) and the Anti-Drug & Smuggling Unit (ADSU) at the airport. Officials are treating the group as part of an organised crime network responsible for smuggling drugs from Europe to Mauritius.

The seven suspects, 5 women and 2 men, have been charged with drug trafficking and placed in custody. They appeared at Mahebourg court on the island’s south-eastern coast on Monday, with all remaining in pre-trial detention.

Authorities also carried out a series of targeted raids on hotels containing British nationals after police received a lead that more foreign passengers may have been transporting drugs. No arrests were made at any of the three locations searched.

According to The Sun, a spokesperson for the UK Foreign Office said, “We are supporting several British nationals who are detained in Mauritius and are in contact with the local authorities.”

  • NASA Telescopes Reveal Hidden Properties of X-Ray Pulsar RX J0032.9-7348

Pulsars are neutron stars rotating rapidly, emitting electromagnetic radiation in various wavelengths, including radio waves, optical, X-ray, and gamma-ray. Identified as a X ray transient source in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) about 30 years ago, RX J0032.9-7348 has been classified as an X-ray Pulsar after detecting X-ray pulsations with a period of approximately 7.02 seconds after experiencing an X-ray brightening in October 2024.To take a closer look at it, astronomers have incorporated two NASA X-ray telescope, NICER and NuSTAR.

    Discovery and Observational Campaign

According to Handbook of X-ray and Gamma ray Astrophysics, Accretion-powered X-ray pulsars (XRPs) are neutron stars within binary systems that emit X-rays in regular pulses, powered by the accretion of matter from a companion star. However, although RX J0032.9-7348 has been known for decades, very little is known regarding its properties and its optical counterpart has not been identified. Therefore, a team of astronomers led by Birendra Chhotaray of the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL) in Ahmedabad, India, decided to take a closer look at this pulsar with NuSTAR and NICER.
Dr Chhotaray and his team were able to verify the X-ray pulsation period of RX J0032.9-7348 through their observations and they also discovered that this pulsar has a double-peak pulse profile throughout a wide energy range, with small changes in the form of energy dependence. Results of the observational campaign, published on the arXiv preprint server, gives insight of the spin dynamics and luminosity of this pulsar. The accretion processes during the X-ray brightening phase increases its angular momentum. It results into a spin-up of approximately -0.00033 seconds per day.
The luminosity of the pulsar varied from 8.2 undecillion to 37 undecillion erg/s during the monitoring campaign. The researchers report that no evidence of iron emission line or cyclotron resonance scattering features was found in the energy spectrum of this source.

  • Earth Has A Pulse Every 26 Seconds And Scientists Have No Idea Why

Somewhere deep beneath our feet, the Earth appears to be pulsing quietly and rhythmically, every 26 seconds. This faint tremor, too subtle for humans to feel, has baffled scientists for decades. Detected by seismometers across continents, the mysterious “heartbeat” has no confirmed explanation, yet it continues to thump-unchanged, unexplained.

First observed in the early 1960s by geophysicist Jack Oliver, the phenomenon-known as a “microseism”, was traced to somewhere in the equatorial Atlantic Ocean, and was stronger during certain seasons. But without modern tools, Oliver’s work remained largely theoretical, the Discover Magazine reported.

It wasn’t until 2005, when researchers at the University of Colorado Boulder stumbled upon the same signal using digital seismic data, that the mystery returned to the scientific spotlight. “We saw something strange, consistent, and persistent,” says seismologist Mike Ritzwoller, recalling the moment his team rediscovered the pulse. They traced it to the Gulf of Guinea, off the coast of West Africa. But what causes it?

One theory suggests it’s the result of powerful ocean waves striking the continental shelf-much like the vibration you feel across a desk when someone taps it on one end. Another theory, proposed by Chinese scientists in 2013, points to volcanic activity near Sao Tome Island in the Bight of Bonny-suspiciously close to the pulse’s origin.Despite decades of study and multiple teams examining the phenomenon from different angles, there is no consensus. “We’re still waiting for the fundamental explanation,” Ritzwoller admits. Some scientists have even stopped prioritising it, calling it an “intriguing but low-impact” riddle compared to larger seismic research questions.

Still, the fact remains: every 26 seconds, Earth ticks like a metronome- its source, purpose, and persistence a mystery hidden beneath ocean waves and volcanic rock.

And perhaps the most haunting part? It hasn’t stopped.
